Blastgreen on Course for More Subsea Blasting

Following a successful bidding process earlier in the year, Blastgreen has recently completed its first underwater blasting project at a UK South Coast oil terminal.

Having completed a site survey of the marine growth on a monopile fender in the summer, Blastgreen’s parent company Fendercare Marine was awarded the contract to project manage the removal & reinstallation of the fender for maintenance & repair with a value of £450k.

Fendercare’s scope also included the supply of all the diving equipment & use of a Blastgreen BG100 machine to remove the marine growth that had formed around the fender’s bolts.  This allowed the bolts to be removed with ease, ensuring no unforeseen & costly delays around the removal of the fender.  In addition, using the Blastgreen machine in situ meant that there were no potentially significant costs for the disposal of the marine growth waste shoreside.

“In the future we will be bidding for similar projects using our inhouse diving capabilities” commented Bob Macmillan, Fendercare’s Diving Services Director, “which, along with our proven experience in project management worldwide, makes us ideally placed to bid for projects that include underwater blasting services.”

Fendercare Marine acquired Blastgreen late in 2009 & is seeing success for it’s blasting equipment & services in bothAustralia& theUK.  The equipment is used for a variety of applications and is proving particularly relevant in marine applications due to it’s use of environmentally friendly media as opposed to toxic abrasives or chemicals.
